Healthy Harold.

This week we went to visit the Healthy Harold van. Harold taught us about being safe at the beach and staying healthy. We have added Harolds website to our special links so that we can visit to play games and learn more.

Tadpoles

This week in 1K we have had a special visitor. She is called Mrs Silvester and she has come to work with use for 3 weeks. Today she taught us about Tadpoles. We are very lucky because we have some tadpoles that have been brought in for us to watch. Today we read a book and we think that our tadpoles will turn into frogs if we look after them properly. Watch this space.

Publishing Our Own books.

Year 1 have been learning all about information reports. 1K investigated some different animals by looking on websites, at video's online, at pictures and in books. We learnt about the monarch butterfly (insect), The jellyfish (invertibrate), the emperor penguin(bird), and the red eyed tree frog(amphibian). We used the computers to type in our information, and too add pictures and to design a front cover and bacground colour. Then Mrs Kimble printed them off and bound them and now we have a gorgeous book each. Hopfully next week we can put up a photo to show you and maybe read them with one of the Kindy classes.

Our New Class Pet!

In 1K we have been excited to welcome a new class pet. His name is Barry and he is a budgie. He is soft and has blue white and black feather. He lives in a cage in our classroom and is funny to watch. Sometimes he talkes to us by chirping. He seem to be enjoying watching us learn and getting used to his new toys and swing.

Aquarium.

Last Friday Year 1 and 2 went to Sydney Aquarium.
First we were excited to see the platypus. We had been learning all about the platypus in class so it was good to see a real one.
Next we saw huge saltwater croc. He had skin that was green and bumpy. He is the largest reptile in Australia.
Later we saw the wonderful dugongs. They had smooth grey skin and when we arrived they had just been given their lettuce to eat. In class we learnt that Dugongs eat seagrass, but we found that when they live in captivity they eat lettuce instead.
After that we walked through the long underwater tunnel. We saw sharks and sting rays which were big and flat.
Then we went to the touch pool and were able to feel a shark egg, sea cucumber and a starfish.
Lasly we saw the turtles which swam slowerly around and around.
